I did a post quite a while ago now about options for back acne. One of the options I talked about was the CeraVe SA Bodywash.
Since I have been continuing to use this product, I thought I would give a review and an update on my skin.
About the CeraVe SA Body Wash
The SA Body wash is one of the seven cleansers CeraVe offers for one’s body. The SA is short for salicylic acid which makes it marketed towards targeting rough and bumpy skin.
In addition to the salicylic acid, there also contains the ceramides and hyaluronic acid that all the CeraVe products have in them. These ingredients help with adding moisture to the skin.
CeraVe products do not have any fragrances in them. This is because the chemicals involved in making fragrances may cause skin irritation in some people. Due to this, the SA cleanser is considered non-irritating and soothing to the skin.
This product is sold in 10 ounce bottles for around $15 and seems to have great ratings on multiple sites.
My take on this product
I suffer from chest and back acne. Over the years I have largely ignored these two areas because my face was the more important thing that I wanted to have clear up.
A year or two ago, I decided that it was time to tame the zits on my body. I Googled body washes that targeted acne and I came across this CeraVe one. The salicylic acid that is in it is used to treat acne and it is also fragrance free. These two things made me end up buying it.
I noticed results soon after using this product and was very happy. Pimples and cysts were not showing up anymore. My skin was indeed smooth.
After a while, my skin started to feel rough again with the acne coming back. I thought maybe it was just a fluke and kept on using it.
Unfortunately, it was not a fluke. I am back to dealing with acne on my chest and back along with having a rough texture.
I discontinued the use of it for a couple of months and just used it again about five days ago. Since then I have had three painful cysts along with small zits sprout up all over my upper back.
Needless to say, I am disappointed in this product and will not be using it any more.
It may be a good choice for others
While the SA Body Wash from CeraVe seemed to be a fail for me after a while, I still recommend it. I think the ingredients it has are great and clearly many people have been happy with it judging from the reviews/ratings.
I will just start using other products that are great for chest and back acne. Stay tuned for an update!
Thanks for reading!
2022 update: I have been using Kirk’s 3-in-1 Cleanser with much success. It has completely taken away my bumpy skin. I would highly recommend it.
