My Fragrance Free Skin Care Products

I have gone through so much with my skin for many years. There have been ups, downs and in-betweens.

I finally feel like the fragrance free products that I am using now are effective and worthwhile for me. In this post, I will be showing you what they are so maybe you can try them, too!

Why fragrance free?

My husband has a severe allergy to fragrances. It has been rough for him because fragrances are everywhere and in most hygiene products. Because of this, we have had to forgo going some places.

It has been difficult to find fragrance free products but it seems like there are an increasing amount popping up lately. I have to admit that I miss the fragranced products I once used though!

My skin issues: past and present

I suffer from PCOS. My symptoms started at the young age of 11 and included horrible acne along with extreme oiliness. This made my self-esteem plummet because no other kid around me had it that bad.

Up until the age of around 24, I was focused on just treating acne and oiliness due to those being the main problems. Those two ended up reducing in severity and I have been left having to deal with other things. These include hyperpigmentation spots/patches, unevenness and a rough texture.

Hyperpigmentation is extremely hard to get rid of. It is stubborn and the spots/patches may not go away completely. For me, it has been pretty depressing as the dark marks seemingly grow in number and get worse.

Because of my issues, I have used so many different products over the years. Here is a list of some of what I have put on my face:

  • Tretinoin
  • Adapalene
  • Clindamycin
  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Glycolic acid
  • Lactic acid
  • Mandelic acid
  • Salicylic acid
  • Vitamin C Serums
  • Various fade creams
  • DIY and store bought face masks
  • DIY and store bought scrubs
  • Kojic acid

There are probably ones I am missing but I think you get the point. It has been a wild and expensive ride trying to find the next product/routine that will help me.

My fragrance free skin care products

I am excited to share these with you all! The following are names/descriptions of the products and what I think of them:

MUAC Retinol Serum

This Makeup Artist’s Choice .30 retinol serum product. It is a lower strength retinol option that is perfect for someone just starting off with this kind of active. Retinol is used for anti-aging and anti-acne purposes. They recommend that this product be applied every other night.

I bought this product after chickening out on going back on tretinoin. Even though I knew that this probably wouldn’t work as well, I was not looking forward to the horrible purge that I would most likely get from tretinoin.

Shortly after starting using MUAC’s retinol serum,, I did indeed start getting an acne purge. It was actually pretty bad or at least not what I am used to. Fortunately after around three weeks, the acne went away and I began to see great changes. It has now been nine weeks since I started and my skin looks amazing!

My hyperpigmentation is still there but is getting a lot better. The texture of my skin has also smoothed out and I can tell that some tone- evening is happening.

I use this every other night and will continue to until it is gone. Then I will buy another one!

MUAC DMAE Cleanser

This MUAC cleanser is for cleansing the skin, antiaging, dark spot fading and firming. It also has two types of clay in it so it may help with acne, too.

I have read about the use of DMAE in skincare a lot and also used to make a DIY under eye cream that contained it. This product looked really interesting so I decided to buy it a few weeks after I bought the retinol serum. Needless to say, I love it. It makes my skin smooth and clean without dryness.

I use this cleanser every evening.

MUAC DMAE Toner

This is a toner from MUAC that contains DMAE. It is good for getting extra residue off, firming and nourishing. It can be used twice a day after cleansing.

I got this toner as a sample with the retinol and had to have a full size bottle of it right away. It feels so refreshing and leaves my skin moisturized and smooth. I even put it under my eyes with no irritation. This is definitely a keeper and I use it twice a day (morning and evening).

Black Girl Sunscreen Kids SPF 50

This is a sunscreen that provides a lot of protecting against the rays and doesn’t cause a white cast. It also contains moisturizing goodies in it. The company is black-owned but not just for black people!

I absolutely love this sunscreen and I am glad I found it after my favorite product was discontinued. This one does not cause a white cast as it states and it is very moisturizing. I apply it every two hours as is recommended by experts.

Red Light Therapy Lamp

This of course is fragrance free! You can see my other post about this device here. Basically, I use it for antiaging of my face every night for 20 minutes.

Other products I am interested in

So the products I am currently using are amazing, but I think at some point I may add or change them out for other ones. There are some things I am interested in and they are as follows:

In conclusion

I am so glad that I found fragrance free products that are working for me! If you suffer from similar skin issues, you may want to give them a try. Who knows, one or more of them might become your holy grail!

What skincare products are you loving these days?
