This Week’s Workout Review: Fitness Blender #1

I said in my recent post about my goals for 2022, that I was going to be doing a weekly workout review. This is where I will be replacing one of my workouts each week with another one that I find around the net.

Doing these workouts and reviewing them will be fun for me as well as provide a possible workout option for you to try. So without further ado, here is this week’s review!

What and why

So this week I am replacing my cardio and abs workout with a Fitness Blender one called, Dynamic Total Body HIIT and Core Workout.

I chose this one because I wanted to switch up this particular day in my workout routine. For a long time now, cardio has mainly included my cardio ladder workout with the stepper machine being the most recent thing. While I do like those two types of cardio, I wanted to see if I could burn more calories than I typically do with a different workout.

In terms of ab work, I have really only been doing the same two moves for almost the past three years. I feel like I need to change it up so the fact that this particular workout includes ab work-was one of the things that drew me to it.

I was really excited to try it out!

About the workout

If you don’t already know about Fitness Blender, I would highly suggest checking them out! They have so many home workout videos that you are sure to find something you like on there.

Fitness Blender rates their workouts in terms of intensity. The rating scale goes from one to five with five being the most difficult. Each workout also lists the duration, body focus, estimated calorie burn range, equipment needed and workout type.

The Dynamic Total Body HIIT and Core Workout has a rating of five-meaning that it is a tough workout. The duration of it is 38 minutes (video duration?) with an estimated calorie burn range of 219-421. No equipment is needed for this one-just your body!

This workout has a 5 minute warm-up and cool down. The actual workout includes three rounds of HIIT (six exercises; six minutes total per round) and three rounds of core exercises (two exercises; two minutes total per round).

Some of the particular exercises in this workout include things like burpees, star jumps, high knees, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, crunches and core twists.

My review

I have been used to doing some of these bodyweight exercises a lot but others-not so much. Boy, was I not conditioned for them!

The first rounds of the HIIT and core work were no joke. I mean, holy cow! All of those burpees! They really took a lot out of me. My abs were burning as well.

After finishing the first rounds, I was dreading the next ones- but I did them anyway of course. They were really hard for me and I had to take a couple of breaks. Lizard hops? What the hell!

I am in shape but I guess not as much as I thought I was.

I pushed hard to get through the whole workout and was glad it was over once I got to the cool down. I was a sweaty mess and felt like I had gotten a quality workout in. My calorie burn ended up being 320 which is around what I burn in my usual workouts but in a little less amount of time.

Here are the pros and cons of the workout ( in my opinion):

  • Relatively short workout.
  • High calorie burn for the short amount of workout time.
  • Will get you in great shape if done regularly.
  • All body weight exercises-no equipment necessary.
  • Don’t need a ton of space to do it.
  • Includes a warm up and cool down.
  • Variety of exercises included.

  • A bit too many burpees for me.

All in all, I give this workout a 4/5 in likeability and a 5/5 in toughness.

Who do I recommend it for?

Here is the type of person I think this Fitness Blender workout would be great for:

  • This workout is great for people who are advanced exercisers. It is most ideal if you are already used to some of the body weight exercises that are included in the workout, but just being in good shape is fine. Even if you are a pretty fit person, some of the exercises in the workout may still be uncomfortable for you. Don’t get down about it! You can always make modifications if you are truly struggling and will still get a great workout in.
  • This workout is great for people who like doing a variety of exercises. With the three rounds having different exercises in them, they are probably not going to get bored as easily as they would with other workouts.
  • If time is an issue or a person doesn’t like to exercise for very long, this workout will be great for them. It is relatively short and provides a good calorie burn if you put in the work.
  • This is a great workout for people who want to exercise at home sometimes (or all of the time!) and don’t have a decked out home gym that includes cardio equipment.

Who don’t I recommend it for?

Here are the types of people I think should avoid this Fitness Blender workout:

  • People who are just starting out with consistent exercise or who haven’t been doing a lot of cardio, would find this too hard. It is best for these people to start out at Fitness Blender’s lower level workouts.
  • If you absolutely hate burpees, this is not the workout for you. There are four different types!
  • If you need a workout that is low-impact (easier on the joints), this workout is not for you unless you want to make a lot of modifications.
  • People who are recovering from an injury of some sort.

A final word

This workout by Fitness Blender is definitely one that will help you reach your fitness goals. It is tough but quick so it can be fit into most people’s day. I know I will definitely be doing this one again soon!

If you do this workout, let me know your thoughts about it in the comments! Also, let me know what workouts you are loving these days.
