An Introduction To The PMS Series: What’s Coming Up

I will be starting a PMS series on this blog. This is something I have been wanting to do for a while and I have finally decided to bite the bullet and get the ball rolling on it!

This post will serve as an introduction so you understand what the series will cover, how and when. If this all sounds interesting to you-read on!

About PMS

I thought I would do a quick blurb about PMS before getting into the rest of it. Even though most people know what it is, a refresher never hurts.

PMS stands for, premenstrual syndrome. It is a condition that affects around 75% of menstruating people and typically occurs around seven days before one’s period starts. Some people have less than seven days of it and some have more (up to 14 days).

There are 150 different symptoms that the syndrome is associated with. Everyone is different in which ones they experience and the severity level of them. Here are some common ones:

  • Bloating
  • Skin irritation
  • GI issues
  • Body aches
  • Worsening allergies
  • Headaches and/or migraines
  • Increased appetite
  • Cravings
  • Fatigue
  • Mood issues

PMS is typically self-diagnosable. One can track their symptoms throughout their cycle so they know what they feel on certain days. Then, they can see if it matches with how and when the syndrome usually presents itself.

If a person experiences severe mood issues that disrupt their life, they may have PMDD instead of just PMS. PMDD stands for, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and affects around 5.5% of women.

There is no cure for PMS or PMDD-only treatments that will help the symptoms. These include supplements, medications and lifestyle changes.

About the series

The series will cover all of the most common PMS/PMDD symptoms. There will be information on why they might be occurring, when they occur and ways to deal with them.

Each post in the series will focus on one symptom. This is so special attention can be given to it. Readers can expect to see scientific and anecdotal evidence weaved into the posts. They will also include my personal accounts.

The posts will go out once or twice a month-depending on some factors. They will have the category of, “PMS Series” tagged on them so someone can easily find them. I will also put links to previous ones at the top of each post.

Why I am doing this series

I mainly wanted to do this series because PMS is something that I struggle with and know many others do as well. I have learned a lot about this syndrome/symptoms and figured out some things that have helped me. My wish is that I would have had known about them much earlier.

My goal is to inform and help readers that happen to find their way here. I do not get very many views (barely any!) so I am also going to be working on increasing my reach by creating a blogging strategy for myself.

In conclusion

If you have any interest in my PMS series- I really hope you stick around and read the posts. It could be useful for you. Also, make sure to leave a comment about the topics as I would love to hear from you!

Is there a particular PMS symptom that you struggle with the most?

Thanks for reading this and look out for the upcoming posts!
